in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.

"Stiff necked" is a really interesting phrase which describes man very well.

It brings out the reluctancy of man to turn due to pride.

Man was created with freedom of choice to make decisions and not like lifeless robots, 

however, we always chose to stick immobile to our own will and way regardless of the consequence.

2 Peter 3: 3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

To sin, man can completely vacate their minds of their sense and logic.

Witnessing the failure of another man, he mocks his 'misplaced faith',

he challenges "Where is your God?"

The christian's first realisation upon exposure to the gospel is the insufficiency of self, 

followed by the abundant love and grace of God.

Does it require more than common sense to understand that our human weaknesses 

are always the limiting factors?

To his own success, he says "I am able! My will be done!"

In response to others' successes he plots and schemes for their downfall.

Romans 2:3 So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?
